Job Description for Sexton
Position: Sexton
Reports to: Minister along with the Facilities Team
Status: Full time, averaging 35 - 40 hours per week. Flexible hours including some evening and
weekend hours.
Job Purpose: To perform all cleaning, light maintenance and repairs of the church building and surrounding
areas.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Clean walls, bathrooms, appliances, counters, etc. regularly using current CDC guidelines.
• Keep sidewalks clear in inclement weather and maintain the grounds as needed.
• Maintain wood floors.
• Regularly empty trash and recycling into city bins including putting bins out at curb on collection day
and retrieving them after collection.
• Perform general carpentry, painting and repair work.
• Complete work order requests.
• Prepare for special events (set up and take down) as requested.
• Perform safety checks on elevator, boiler/furnace, fire alarm and sprinkler system. Operate building
control systems.
• Maintain and service mechanical equipment.
• Open and close the building when needed.
Job Communication Skills:
• Report needed repairs to the appropriate vendor, the office or the Facilities Team.
• Attend Facilities Team meetings when requested.
• Communicate with staff members via e-mail.
Job Qualifications:
• Experience in the maintenance and custodial field.
• Ability to maintain the systems of the church including use of the various heating, ventilation and
lighting computer programs.
• Ability to follow procedures established by the Manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Ability to be self-managed with good problem solving and communication skills.
• Ability to clearly receive and relay information and follow through with assigned tasks.
Physical Demands:
• Ability to bend, lift up to 50 pounds, climb, shovel, etc. as needed.
