Scott's Weekly Greeting, April 20, 2021 ...

I am strong! I am invincible! I am ... Bat Pastor!

Okay ... I may not be strong. I am definitely not invincible. But I am ... Bat Pastor. And I am vaccinated!

This morning I received the second dose of the vaccine. Even as I await the arrival of a potential reaction to the dose, I feel a sense of relief. It is nice to know that I am 93% less likely to contract COVID-19, and as an added benefit, I am less likely to transmit the virus to someone else. And as I think about it ... that is what gives me the greatest relief, knowing that I less likely to transmit this virus and make someone sick. (The same cannot necessarily be said about my sermons ... but I am always striving to be better.)

They say that it takes a village to raise a child. That is a true statement. The truth of that statement should be applied to our wider community. It takes a village to care for one another. My well-being and your well-being are inextricably linked. Your happiness is my happiness. Your safety, security, and comfort are mine as well. What is more, my village needs your village, and vice versa.

Use whatever platitudes you like ... "We are all in this together." "We are all in the same boat." The global community has has gotten smaller. Isolationist policies were never in the world's best interest, but it is abundantly clear that they cannot solve the problems facing our generation and the generations to come. We cannot succeed alone.

The last couple of weeks, our Sunday school lessons have focused upon the theme of sharing. The act of sharing is taught to us when we are children, but all too often we forget as adults. We can be heroes to one another. We are members of the same village.
