Scott's Weekly Greeting ...

Scott's Weekly Greeting ...

How many times did your parents offer their safety warnings when you left the house?

"Be sure to look both ways before crossing the street!"

"Drive safe! Don't speed!"

If you are like me ... the first morphed into the second when we finally got our driver's licenses. And I still receive the second warning to this day.

We can never hear the warning too many times. We never grow too old for the care and concern of our parents. The feeling behind the very first, "Be careful," is just as deep and sincere as the ten thousandth admonition. There are some things that stand the test of time.

In a similar way, there are stories that bear repeating. When families gather, they share their favorite stories from the family lore. We still laugh at the funny stories and cry at the sad stories, no matter how many times we have heard them.

"Do you remember when mom ..."

"Do you remember how dad ..."

Renee and I are giving a Christmas gift this year that traces its roots to a family story that is almost forty years old!

We are just seven days from our Christmas Eve celebrations. One week! We just had our hearts lifted to the rafters by the delightful pageant on Sunday, and we prepare to tell the story again! We cannot tell the story too many times or often enough. The story of God's light and love breaking through into our world must be shared all year long. With each telling, the story becomes more personal, more beautiful. With each telling, we carry the story deeper into our hearts.

This Sunday we will gather as a church family for worship. We will experience the wonder-filled story through the heart of Joseph (Matthew 1:18-25), and we will take one more step toward the manger.

Join us for worship at 8:00 AM (paperless informal service) and 10:00 AM (traditional service). All are welcome!
