First Parish Congregational Church has a full and active music program, under the leadership of Music Director Peter Stickney and the Reverend Douglas Nielsen. We are happy to have the continued participation of five choirs, which enrich our spirit and enhance the meaning of the worship service:
Senior Choir Handbell Choir Youth Choir Junior Choir Children’s ChoirMusic Program
The
Senior Choir, under the direction of Peter Stickney, is open to all adults. Rehearsals are every Thursday evening, at 7:00pm, in the Choir Room on the lower level of the Church. This choir sings from early September through mid-June, and meets at 9:00am on Sundays to revisit the music prior to the worship service. The Senior Choir is always glad to receive new members.
The Handbell Choir, under the direction of Audrey Cabral, is open to persons of all ages. Prior experience ringing handbells is always a plus, but not a necessity. Persons should be able to read music. Rehearsals are every Monday evening, at 6:30pm, in the Flexible Use room on the upper level of the Church. This choir plays from late September through mid-May, approximately six times a season, and meets at 8:30am on Sundays to revisit the music prior to the worship service. The Handbell Choir occasionally plays at handbell festivals, at other churches and at nursing homes.
The Youth Choir under the direction of Jaime Lupein, is for young adults in high school. They are a great group that has been singing together for quite a while, and always enjoys having new members. The music they sing usually is two-parts and they are also looking to have some of the young people play their instruments with them next year.
The Middle Choir under the direction of Peter Stickney, our Director of Music. This choir is for students in grades 6th thru 8th grades. Rehearsals will be held Thursdays from 4-5pm..
The Junior Choir, under the direction of Susan Marston, is for children in 3
rd through 5th grade. This choir sings from mid-October to June. Rehearsals are Thursdays, after school lets out. Children are escorted from the C.K. Burns School to the Church. The Junior Choir sings as part of the worship service approximately once a month, plus Christmas Eve and Easter Sunday.T h e C h i l d r e n s Choir, under the direction of Meg Pickering,, is for children in Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades. This choir sings from mid-October to June. Due to the childrens’ age, the music is at an introductory level. Each rehearsal starts with practicing worship music, and is followed by fun songs or games. The choir rehearses on Sundays at 9:00am, on the lower level of the Church.
