Scott's Weekly Greeting

Who are we? What are we doing here? These are age old existential questions that have been asked by generation after generation of people. We seek meaning. We seek purpose. We want to be sure that our lives matter.

This week, the world has paused to reflect and remember the horrors of the Holocaust. The global community continues to feel the pain of such devastating loss. People of compassion want to ensure that history does not repeat itself.

The other day, I watched an interview with a gentleman that had been sent to Auschwitz. The quiet, unassuming man shared that he continues to have nightmares. When he spoke about life in the camp, he said that 'we were not living ... we were existing.' They simply moved from one moment to the next hoping to survive.

No one should ever suffer that fate. To that end, the gentleman shares his powerful and heartbreaking story as often as he can.

Thankfully, most of us will never experience anything even close to the horror of the Holocaust. However, there are times when we question the point or the purpose of life. There may be times in which our circumstances make us feel as though we are simply existing ... moving from moment to moment without meaning or direction.

Early on in his ministry, Jesus offered what may be the most oft-quoted sermon in history ... the Sermon on the Mount. (Matthew 5) He offered us assurance that we are God's beloved and blessed children, as well as instruction on how we are to live. This Sunday in worship, we will explore what it means to be God's children.

Join us for worship Sunday at 8:00 AM (informal, paperless service) or 10:00 AM (traditional service). We will also gather around the communion table and celebrate the Lord's Supper. All are welcome.
