Scott's Weekly Greeting ...

I apologize that I did not post this Tuesday as I normally do. Mother Nature had other plans for me.

Speaking of Mother Nature ... I got to enjoy my first snow storm as a Maine resident! It was lovely! I enjoy the snow and the cold! In preparation, I bought a brand new snow shovel. How exciting! I really did not think I needed anything more than that; the parsonage does not have a very large driveway. However, after a recent dusting of snow, Renee and I realized that a snowblower might be helpful.

So, we harnessed the power of the Internet and ordered one. The delivery date for our brand, new snow removal machine was scheduled for ... yesterday ... right in the midst of the anticipated storm! What luck! Then I read the description of the machine and realized that it was going to be delivered in a box, on a pallet, requiring some assembly. Uh oh. That meant that I needed to clear the driveway such that a truck could drop off a pallet. That meant that I had to spend the day SHOVELING the driveway so that the snowblower could be delivered! Delicious irony, is it not?!

As it turns out, we were the final delivery of the day. I had to shovel the driveway three times in preparation for the long-awaited arrival. The trucked backed in and the driver climbed onto the rear lift. He opened the rear door of the truck and revealed ... a FULLY ASSEMBLED snowblower!! I think that I may have heard angels singing as he wheeled it off the truck!!

Of course, since I had spent the day repeatedly shoveling the driveway, I did not get to use the brand, new machine because the job had already been completed. It sits in the garage ... waiting.

Surprises can be wonderful things! We love to receive happy news! We love when a problem or situation is resolved in a sudden or an unexpected way!

This Sunday is the second week of Advent. We light the Candle of Peace and we encounter wonderful news delivered in an unexpected way. (Matthew 3:1-12) The Bell Choir will be playing at both the 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM worship services, joined by the Senior Choir for a piece at the 10:00 AM service. Please join us for "A Wild Message." All are welcome!
